Work Schedule: Varied Days and Hours

• High school or equivalent; AND, specialized, short-term training in medical / surgical patient care or the delivery of special care.

• Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in the patient record.  Transports patients and documents action on patient record. Collects and records vital signs, weights, and other patient data in patient record. Administers oxygen under the direction of a licensed Nurse. Assists nurses and physicians with sterile procedures.
  
  
• Removes peripheral, intravenous therapy lines. Performs phlebotomy. Performs wound care and dressing changes. Prepares patients for surgery. Inserts and removes gastric and urethral tubes. Performs enemas and disimpactions. Performs bedside testing such as oximetry, ECG, Glucometery, urinalysis and other tests. 
  
  
• Uses the computerized Patient Care Information System (PACIS) at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in this description. Operates patient monitoring systems specific to unit needs (such as, cardiac and fetal heart monitoring).
  
  
• Participates in the nutritional well being of the patient through tray delivery, assistance with patient set-up, assists those patients that are dependent for their intake needs, and accurately records consumption. Assists or provides patient hygiene to include, shaving, mouth care, foot care, pericare, and bathing. Assists patients with portable or wall oxygen. Assists with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing and walking patients.
  
  
• Insures cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit. Stocks medical supplies, linens and paper goods. Inventories equipment as required. Processes broken equipment as directed. Maintains equipment logs as required.  Delivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology. Transports x-rays, blood and equipment.
  
  
• Performs basic clerical duties such as answering phones, taking messages, filing and copying.  Stamps and assembles patient charts. Posts laboratory and other tests results.  Organizes care in a manner that contributes to the overall quality of the team.  Communicates information pertinent to the end of shift summation before leaving the unit.
