Overview

As a Radiation Therapist at Plains Regional Cancer Center (a department of PRMC), you'll work alongside Radiation Oncologists and the Radiation Therapy team to deliver prescribed radiation therapy treatments safely and accurately.

Equipment:

Elekta Versa HD. Capable of SBRT, precise beam VMAT delivery. All training of equipment will happen on site.

Presbyterian Plains Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is an acute care hospital with 106 licensed beds located in Clovis, New Mexico - about 90 miles from Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas. As a not-for-profit hospital, PRMC exists to improve the health of the patients, members and communities we serve in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas.

Qualifications

Depending on qualifications there are multiple tiers for this position. The compensation range is dependent upon the tier.

 

Radiation Therapist - Entry

  • Associates degree.
  • Graduate of a JRCERT accredited program in radiation therapy or suitable equivalent.
  • BLS certification required at time of hire.
  • Certified and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy. Must be certified and licensed by the New Mexico Environment Departments Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program within 30 days of hire
  • Medical Radiologic Technologist

 

Radiation Therapist - Core

Must meet qualifications of Radiation Therapist - Entry, listed above, AND:

  • Able to complete a clinical on-call new start, including the calculations necessary.
  • Able to perform a clinical template of electron fields
  • Able to successfully immobilize a prostate and rectum using an endorectal balloon with gas release techniques
  • Able to deliver radiation to breasts using free breathing multi-isocenter setup techniques with photons and electrons
  • Able to deliver radiation using Active Breathing Coordinator system to Comprehensive Breast, Static IMRT Lung and Static IMRT Abdomen isocenters
  • Complete a 6 month rotation in CT Simulation to obtain the following skills:
    • Mastery of daily and weekly Quality Assurance for CT simulator, LapLaser system.
    • Successfully produce custom bolus devices for prescribed treatment
    • Able to document patient setup, complete quality checklist items and schedule treatment appointments
    • Able to simulate the following sites, including the production of necessary immobilization devices: CNS, Head and Neck, Lung, GI, GU, GYN, Extremity, Free Breathing Breast and perform Free Breathing 4DCT scans

 

Radiation Therapist - Advanced

Must meet qualifications of Radiation Therapist - Core, listed above, AND:

  • Able to troubleshoot errors and interlocks on linear accelerator
  • Able to troubleshoot Active Breathing Coordinator
  • Able to deliver radiation using Active Breathing Coordinator system to Volume Modulated Arc Therapy Breast, Lung and Abdomen isocenters
  • Able to deliver radiation to Stereotactic isocenters using either the Active Breathing Coordinator or compression belt systems as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist
  • Complete a second 6 month rotation in CT Simulation to obtain the following skills:
    • Successful vendor training of contrast power injector
    • Mastery of daily Quality Assurance and troubleshooting for contrast power injector
    • Perform multiple contrast studies using power injector as prescribed by Radiation Oncologist
    • Complete a mock trial exercise for contrast reaction management
    • Able to simulate the following sites, including the production of necessary immobilization devices: Breast using Breath Hold technique, Lung using Breath Hold Technique, SBRT with and without contrast, SSRS with and without contrast, Vaginal Cuff Brachytherapy, and Partial Breast Irradiation Brachytherapy.
    • Observe complex brachytherapy device placement in OR with Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist.

 

Radiation Therapist - Expert

Must meet qualifications of Radiation Therapist - Advanced, listed above, AND:

  • Complete formal Clinical Instructor training led by MD Anderson School of Health Professions
  • Have documented and active participation in the instruction and evaluation of radiation therapy students
