Work Schedule: 3, 12hr shifts either 0600-1800 or 1800-0600

 

Shift Differentials:

  • $1.00/hr Ambulance Service Differential, permanent, earned on all hours worked
  • $5.00/hr Night Differential, earned on eligible night hours, stacks on base rate
  • $3.00/hr Weekend Differential, earned on eligible weekend hours, stacks on base rate

 

The Ambulance Service Dispatcher, also known as Dispatch/System Status Control (SSC) I, plays a pivotal role in coordinating emergency and non-emergency medical responses. Responsible for call entry, communication with fire departments, and dispatching ambulance crews, this position ensures timely and efficient deployment of resources. Reporting to the Communications Commander, the SSC I also collaborates with other dispatchers and learns additional roles within the communications center.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone with members, employer groups, brokers, physicans, and physican office staff using strong dialogue and customer service competencies
  • IAED, BLS, and NM EMD required within 1 year of hire
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch ambulance crews for emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring swift response and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Input service requests and pertinent information from fire departments, maintaining clear communication regarding safety, availability, and estimated arrival times.
  • Collaborate with fellow SSCs to optimize resource deployment and management.
  • Maintain accurate and legible dispatch records, enabling the department to assess emergency medical crew availability effectively.
  • Foster positive communication and collaboration with city hospitals' emergency departments to facilitate seamless call handling.
  • Create and maintain a detailed log of completed and canceled calls, ensuring comprehensive record-keeping.
  • Prepare informative briefing logs for relief dispatchers to ensure smooth transition between shifts.
  • Attend departmental meetings, workshops, and seminars to stay updated on best practices and procedures.
  • Interact effectively with customers, understanding their needs, and explaining relevant data as required.
  • Undergo training to achieve competency in inputting fire department calls and interacting with fire department dispatch centers and apparatus.
  • Train to proficiency in dispatching and monitoring ambulance units for various types of calls.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the dispatch operations.
