Overview

Presbyterian is seeking a skilled Progressive Care Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of acute care patients in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

 

As a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), you will play a crucial role in the care and recovery of patients who are transitioning from intensive care but still require close monitoring and specialized care. You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where your clinical expertise and compassionate care will make a significant impact on patients' lives.

Presbyterian Hospital is PHS’s flagship hospital – located in the heart of Albuquerque. Presbyterian Hospital offers a wide range of specialized care – including heart health, women’s health, children’s health and neuroscience care.

 

The new Progressive Care tower at Presbyterian Hospital features:

  • 11 stories and 335,000 square feet
  • Healing gardens and tranquil indoor spaces – including several green spaces where staff, patients and their families can rest their minds and refresh.
  • Strategically designed, decentralized nurse’s stations that facilitate provider collaboration and access to patient rooms

Work schedule:
0.9 FTE (36 hours/week)

Day Shift and Night Shift Available
12-hour Nights, 7:00pm – 7:00am

12-hour Days, 7:00am - 7:00pm

More about our Progressive Care (Step Down) Units:

 

Acute Medical Step-Down:

  • The Acute Medical Step-Down unit at Presbyterian Hospital provides care for high acuity patients within a culture that promotes teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect.

Cardiac Step-Down:

  • Cardiac ICU Step Down is comprised of 2 units totaling 50 beds. This unit provides patient-focused, specialized care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring for various Cardiovascular disorders, including Cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. Patients recovering from myocardial infarction, coronary intervention, and electrophysiology procedures are also cared for on this unit.
  • The Cardiac Progressive Units provide quality care through a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. We strive to provide the best professional patient care during our patients’ stay, followed by personalized discharge planning to meet outpatient needs. 

Neuro Step-Down Units:

  • The Neuro Step Down Unit is a dedicated team of high-performing nurses providing exceptional patient care within the 29-bed unit.
  • This unit is highly specialized neurology Step-Down, dedicated to the special care required for patients who are recovering from neurosurgery, or neurological injuries – to include psych patients. Joint Commission-Accredited Primary Step-Down.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing
• State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License
• BLS certification REQUIRED at time of hire

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population in the Progressive Care Unit.

  • Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, condition, and responses to treatment.

  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by healthcare providers.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.

  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care.

  • Document patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in electronic health records (EHR).

  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to established clinical protocols and standards.
