Overview

Presbyterian is seeking a Nurse Advice Line Clinical Triage Nurse to assess and triage inbound member and patient calls to the PHP Nurse Advice Line. This role ensures that services provided align with clinically appropriate guidelines and triage protocols.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize clinical expertise to evaluate and document patient needs, ensuring accurate coordination of care.

  • Conduct clinical triage for all levels of medical acuity, assisting callers in navigating the appropriate healthcare options.

  • Validate and interpret medical information using evidence-based criteria.

  • Consult with PHP medical directors on non-emergent cases when protocols require clarification.

  • Guide patients to the right venues of care, including primary care, urgent or emergent care, Advanced Life Support (ALS) services, or public health organizations like Poison Control Centers or Public Health Departments.

  • Adapt to varied shifts and occasional on-call assignments to support patient care needs.

Qualifications

Education & Credentials:

  • Minimum Requirement: Associate degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

  • Licensure: New Mexico Board of Nursing RN License with Multi-State Compact Licensure status required.

  • Experience: At least three years of RN experience in a clinical setting, emergency medicine, urgent care, or managed care.

  • Organizational & Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills for interpreting medical records.

  • Research & Coordination Expertise: Proven experience in conducting detailed research and managing complex coordination tasks.

  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to think critically, as evidenced by experience, education, and the pre-hire interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Triage and process medical advice requests from health plan members.

  • Use clinical protocols to assess, advise, and document interactions.

  • Coordinate care with stakeholders and providers statewide.

  • Apply critical thinking to assess risk and determine appropriate direction of care.

  • Maintain legal documentation of calls and referrals.

  • Collaborate with behavioral health clinicians or crisis staff when needed.

  • Identify trends and potential quality-of-care concerns.

  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and medical directors.

  • Ensure compliance with call processing, documentation, and follow-up protocols.

  • Meet turnaround times and maintain productivity and quality standards.

  • Perform additional duties as required.
