Overview

Presbyterian is seeking a skilled Sterile Processing Tech for the Santa Fe Medical Center.  In this role, you will work under direct and indirect supervision by following approved infection control, quality assurance and departmental policies and procedures.

 

You will also clean, decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize surgical instruments, trays and packs and reusable medical devices for inpatient Nursing departments and PMG clinics. Being attentive to detail will you help you with inventory control, restocks and distributing instruments and reusable medical equipment to the Operating Room. It should be noted you will works a majority of the time in a Sterile Processing Department cleaning, preparing, assembling, sterilizing instruments and trays for the Operating Room.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One year experience in sterile processing environment, hospital or clinic (medical or veterinary) preferred.
  • Previous experience with handling of sterile supplies and/or instruments preferred.
  • CRCST preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to handwashing requirements

  • Follows workflow patterns and standard precautions

  • Ensures sterility assurance and biological monitoring

  • Complies with dress code

  • Validates and maintains event-related protocols

  • Monitors disinfection and sterilization load parameters and records

  • Maintains inventory check sheets and equipment monitoring

  • Processes instrumentation according to instructions for use

  • Meets regulatory requirements for sterilization, high-level disinfection, and biological monitoring

  • Ensures employee competencies are documented

  • Accurately maintains daily records of all QA and sterilization functions

  • Complies with regulatory agency and Infection Control standards

  • Adheres to organizational and departmental policies and procedures

  • Properly dons and doffs personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Inspects, disassembles, sorts, cleans, and processes reusable instrumentation and equipment

  • Selects and operates specialized cleaning equipment

  • Follows manufacturer recommendations for cleaning agents

  • Identifies, inspects, and assembles general and specialty instruments

  • Handles various power equipment, laser, and endoscopic instruments per specifications and manufacturer recommendations

  • Selects and prepares packaging materials for sterilization per manufacturer guidelines

  • Selects appropriate sterilization method

  • Maintains accurate sterilization records

  • Properly loads and unloads sterilization cart items

  • Verifies sterilization parameters before distribution

  • Demonstrates awareness of personal and work area safety at all times

  • Complies with facility safety policies and procedures, including those for bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases

  • Takes prompt corrective actions when hazards are identified (reporting or removing, as appropriate)

  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills

  • Actively supports and contributes to teamwork in the workplace

  • Takes responsibility and is accountable for professional work ethics

  • Adheres to posted work schedules
