Overview

Presbyterian is seeking a Diabetes Educator to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients in an Outpatient Clinic.  The Diabetes Educator is responsible for teaching and learning all about type 1 and type 2 diabetes and Pediatric Nutrition. This position has the opportunity to grow and develop skills with diabetes technology and working with an interdisciplinary team. 

   

Type of Opportunity: Full Time (1.0 FTE/40 hours per week)

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8-hour days

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in nursing, dietetics, or related field.
  • Current RN or RD license
  • 2 years of experience in diabetes education, preferably in a pediatric setting.
  • Certification as a diabetes educator-CDE, required or within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan and implement multicultural diabetes skills education programs
  • Provide diabetes technology i.e. pumps, continuous glucose monitors etc. education
  • Evaluate educational needs and barriers to learning about pediatric patients and their families
  • Educate, assess and promote care and wellness to pediatric patients and their families
  • Coordinate care plans with Endocrinologists
  • Collaborate on community events with other community resources and programs
  • Advertises program and provide education in all aspects of diabetes
  • Care for pediatric patients with type 1, type 2 diabetes
  • Provide emotional support to children and their families dealing with diabetes
  • Stay up to date with the latest research and developments in pediatric diabetes care
  • Educate patients and their families how to recognize and respond to signs of high or low blood sugar
  • Other duties as assigned.
