Overview

 

Presbyterian is seeking an EMT Intermediate to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of acute care patients in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

 

EMTs working in the emergency department are responsible for providing advanced care to patients facing emergent conditions. The ideal candidate is a dedicated professional with a passion for excellence, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to thrive under pressure.

 

Type of Opportunity: Per Diem (.001 FTE/12 hours per week)

This position is eligible for the Northern New Mexico differential of $4.00 per hour. (This differential may be adjusted or discontinued based on business requirements.)

Qualifications

  • BLS certification required at time of hire
  • Education: Certification or Degree as an EMT
  • Licensed as an EMT Intermediate in the state of New Mexico
  • High School Diploma

Responsibilities

  • Monitors patients and documents observations in the patient record

  • Stamps and assembles patient charts

  • Transports patients and records actions taken

  • Collects and records vital signs

  • Provides basic patient education and discharge instructions

  • Inserts and removes peripheral IV lines under physician direction

  • Performs phlebotomy procedures

  • Initiates IV fluid therapy and assists with difficult IV placements

  • Serves on the code blue team for Presbyterian Rust Medical Center

  • Performs wound care, dressing changes, and closes wounds with sutures or staples

  • Prepares patients for surgery

  • Inserts and removes gastric and urethral tubes

  • Administers enemas

  • Applies splints, casts, and traction devices based on competency

  • Conducts bedside testing including ECG, glucometer, urinalysis, and breathalyzer

  • Maintains and coordinates equipment and supply systems

  • Operates cardiac and other patient monitoring systems

  • Uses McKesson and EMR systems for documentation and unit secretary tasks

  • Cleans nutrition areas and general unit spaces

  • Cleans and stores equipment, empties trash and sharps containers

  • Stocks medical supplies, linens, and paper goods

  • Inventories and processes equipment and maintains logs

  • Delivers specimens to lab, microbiology, and pathology departments

  • Transports x-rays, blood, and medical equipment

  • Assists with patient nutrition including tray delivery and intake documentation

  • Administers oxygen under nurse supervision

  • Assists with sterile procedures and daily living activities

  • Provides hygiene support including shaving, oral care, and bathing

  • Assists with oxygen equipment and storage

  • Organizes care to support team quality

  • Attends staff meetings and participates in training and development

  • Supports patient satisfaction programs

  • Communicates patient status during shift handoff and care transfers

  • Collaborates with Emergency Department staff and providers

  • Performs other duties as assigned
