Our step-downProgressive Care Unit cares for a variety of adult patients and conditions who require monitoring but does not warrant care in the Intensive Care Unit. Many of our patients require continuous monitoring and complex 24-hour care while working with specialized equipment in a fast-paced environment requiring highly skilled, proactive, and dedicated nurses. The unit cares for patients with complications from chronic diseases such as diabetes, to post-op orthopedic patients, evaluation of those with cardiac changes, providing life saving interventions, collaborating with other specialties, and educating patients and family members. Our unit features large private rooms each with standard lift equipment and bedside computers that allow physicians and nurses instant access to medical records at bedside. Presbyterian provides a year-long Medical, Surgical, and Progressive Care Nurse Residency Program for newly graduated nurses who are interested in starting their professional career in these areas. The program has shown to improve engagement and retention by providing a strong nursing foundation for quality nursing practice. Residents will obtain continuing education credits upon completion of the program.
Newly licensed nurses, graduating from an accredited college, within 12 months are welcome to apply. Qualified candidates must have a current New Mexico RN license and an associate’s degree in nursing or higher (BSN preferred). Residents will be hired as full-time nursing staff “in training” with full benefits. Hours will be variable and at various sites. Two year postcourse completion work commitment agreement required.
Residents who successfully complete the program’s objectives will be interviewed for permanent full-time staff nurse positions at Presbyterian Hospital, Rust Medical Center, or other participating Presbyterian locations

The Emergency Department RN is responsible for the primary nursing care and coordination of care for assigned patients of all ages. Develops a plan of care appropriate for the patients needs in consultation with the physician.

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients during a shift. Responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently integrating a standards-based framework model.
